Treatment Philosophy

February 23, 2021

Ironhorse Physical Therapy & Pilates combines the best practices of a Licensed Physical Therapist with those of a trained pilates professional.

Victoria emphasizes one-on-one, personalized care. There are no assistants, no hot packs or compresses, and no devices strapped to you while you are left sitting around and your insurance gets billed. Instead, you have the attention of an elite physical therapist and pilates instructor with several training methods at her disposal. You will receive detailed exercises, therapy and manual therapy.

As a client, you are entering into a partnership with Victoria. She will do her part, and you must do yours by following her lead on exercises, being active during the sessions, and then taking home your assigned exercises and actively doing your “homework.” Different injuries take different amounts of time to adequately resolve. So be patient, passionate and diligent, and Victoria’s enthusiasm and expertise will carry you to recovery.

Victoria also supports the following treatment methods:

  • Cupping Therapy/Myofascial Decompression: Another form of neuromuscular stimulation, this method uses suction cups and manual therapy at strategic points on the body to help heal various injuries. It’s part of Eastern medicine principles that have been adapted using orthopedics and sports medicine.
  • Gray Cook and Functional Movement Systems: The study of grading efficient movement patterns has been championed by practitioners such as Gray Cook, who has worked in the NFL with the Indianapolis Colts. Many of these methods have been applied to international soccer players and other athletes.
  • CrossFit: The same rigorous training used by martial artists, police officers and firefighters has been adapted to athletic training and has proven results. Like pilates, CrossFit focuses on strengthening core muscle groups.
  • TRX Suspension Training: These cables are ideal for workouts stressing resistance training. Look familiar? There are similar concepts at play with pilates. Some TRX users include NBA star Carmelo Anthony and NFL quarterback Drew Brees, among many others.
  • Gua Sha: An element of Eastern medicine, this technique uses a round-edged instrument that is pressed against the injured areas and palpated. It never pierces the skin, but it stimulates blood circulation to the injured area.

These are just a few of the tools at our disposal when you visit Ironhorse Physical Therapy in San Ramon.
